Here is a summary of the steps involved in getting your first Licence.

 1. Get a Learner Licence

  • Must be at least 16 years old 
  • Require evidence of identity
  • Must be medically fit to drive
  • Must have a good knowledge of the road rules 
  • Must pass the written road rules test

 2. Driver training and experience

  • Record 100 hours of accumulated on-road driving
  • experience in your logbook
  • When driving you must display L-plates front and rear
  • Must obey the No alcohol limit
  • Must only drive while supervised

 3. P1 licence 

  • Must have held Learner Licence for at least 12 months
  • Must pass your practical driving test
  • When driving you must display red P-plates
  • Must obey the No alcohol limit

 P1 Licence

 4. P2 licence

  • Must have held P1 Licence for at least 12 months
  • Must pass your hazard perception test
  • When driving you must display green P-plates
  • Must obey the No alcohol limit

 P2 Licence

 5. Open licence

  • Must have held P2 Licence for at least 12 months
  • or 2 years if under 25 when P1 licence issued
